A total of 1681 papers on community planning, from year of 1999 to 2014, in the Web of Science database are visually analyzed by Citespace, displaying in five aspects, such as time distribution of papers, representative figures and articles, research focuses, foreland of analyses and research contents. The result shows that analyses on foreign community planning erupted in 2002. Researching hot-spots includes governance, participation, sustainability and conversation in communities. It trends from exploration of community planning in earlier time and diversity of research topics to close connection with community planning and social problems in later period. Finally, this paper states eight main contents such as 'community collaboration and community participation', 'physical planning on community level', 'special community', 'community safety', 'community emotion and identity', 'community sustainable development', 'community revitalization', 'application of GIS in community planning'. It is expected to provide instructions and references to planning research and practices on communities in China.
