Guide for Authors

Shanghai Urban Planning Review is a bi-monthly academic journal sponsored by the Shanghai Urban Planning and Natural Resources Bureau and operated by the Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Research Institute. It is selected as "The Key Magazine of China Technology" and "Top Ten Newspapers and Periodicals in China's Engineering Consulting Industry". Shanghai Urban Planning Review publishes articles on original studies, practices, theories, and literature reviews in the field of urban planning. All those involved with urban planning and policy making from national and local government organizations, academia and consultancies are welcomed to submit manuscripts.

Article requirements:

1) Articles should be 6000-10000 words long, with clear themes and viewpoints, complete structure, reasonable logic, standardized terminology, refined text, and reliable data.

2) All manuscripts must contain the essential elements needed to convey the manuscript, for example Title, Authorship, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusions, Artwork and Tables with Captions, and References.

3) Articles are requested to identify who provided financial support for the conduct of the research and/or preparation of the article.

4) For translate copies, the author should deal with the copyright issues involved.

Formatting requirements:

Downloading the sample article for formatting reference is highly encouraged. You can find the download button on the submission page.

Title page information

Title: Concise and informative. Titles are often used in information-retrieval systems. Avoid abbreviations and formulae where possible.

Author names and affiliations: Please clearly indicate the given name(s) and family name(s) of each author and check that all names are accurately spelled. Present the authors' affiliation below the names.

Corresponding author: Clearly indicate who will handle correspondence at all stages of refereeing and publication, also post-publication. Ensure that the e-mail address is given and that contact details are kept up to date by the corresponding author.

Abstract

A concise and factual abstract is required. The abstract should state briefly the purpose of the research, the methods used in the study, the principal results and major conclusions. An abstract is often presented separately from the article, so it must be able to stand alone. For this reason, references, non-standard or uncommon abbreviations should be avoided.

Keywords

Immediately after the abstract, provide 3-6 keywords, avoiding general and plural terms and multiple concepts.

Subdivision-numbered sections

Please divide your article into clearly defined sections. Each subsection is given a brief heading. Each heading should appear on its own separate line. The sections and subsections should be numbered as "1", "1.1", "1.1.1", etc.

Figures and tables embedded in text

Please ensure the figures and the tables included in the file are placed next to the relevant text in the manuscript, rather than at the bottom or the top of the file. The corresponding caption should be placed directly below the figure or table. Please indicate the resources of figures and tables. The figures should be in the format of JPG with a minimum of 300 dpi.

References

The format of references should follow the Information and Documentation-Rules for Bibliographic References and Citations to Information Resources (GB/T 7714-2015). All references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text, and vice versa. The author should provide English translation for Mandarin references.

Important Notice:

1) When the author submits a contribution to Shanghai Urban Planning Review, he/she agrees to transfer the publishing copyright (including digital publishing copyright) of the paper to the editorial department. Please do not make simultaneous submissions.

2) The journal has the right to modify or polish up the article without changing the author's point of view. Please indicate if you do not agree with any change in your contribution.

3) Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously, that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, including electronically without the consent of the copyright holder.

4) The editor's decision will be generally answered within 3 months. If there is no response after 3 months of the submission, the author can submit the paper to another journal, unless the author has other agreement with the editorial department.

5) Once the contribution is published, 2 copies of the periodical will be sent to the author.

Our online submission system guides you stepwise through the process of entering your article details and uploading your files. All correspondence, including notification of the editor's decision and requests for revision, will be shown in the system.
